Description of Secondary Proteins:

//////

The odd thing is when he left. He was just another man who decided to pursue that one weirdo who burned in the asylum fire. Yet, there he went, squawking about how there were trees over where that strange person was, trees that could extend over worlds and create a shroud above a gloomy planet. Of course, I had never seen such things. It was a bunch of baloney. I should worry more about the war.

The man himself said that he encountered a town known as Greyhold, a town merely a shadow’s width away from the cities of ? and !. All the cities actually, had some sort of connection to this guy’s world. That’s all he’d say and talk about.

There was something he brought back from central Asia though that really made the hair raise on the back of my neck. It was some grotesquely carved figurine that the lunatic was born with. Not the lunatic in front of me, but the lunatic that burned in the asylum. He was fascinated by it and told me that it belonged to the great philosopher himself. I refused to believe it. Nothing could survive a fire that huge.

“I got some letters from the man. He said that there is a visitor to Greyhold who’s been asking a lot of questions lately. I await your command, Shorty.”

//////

The traveler came to town to rest. He had been on a ship, a stowaway, or so he said. He went to the inn and slept, muttering in his sleep about some sort of purple fire, like worlds were being consumed at the will of something mightier than God. This aroused the curiosity of an old man who had heard the tales. Apparently, a large murder of crows had picked apart the civilians in the Old Well District. Though news like that might have been horrifying elsewhere, the civilians of the rest of Greyhold continued about their business, blocked by the Guard and large wooden walls erected to keep the public out and something else in. The traveler laughed, but instantly stopped, for he could tell that the stories were true. Something else had intrigued the old man more so than the large mass of birds that had descended. There was something of interest in the Temple of Faces, far below the surface of the Earth. The traveler, being a man of opportunity, decided to investigate, but just as he had found it out, the old man stabbed the traveler, saying the treasure was all his. The traveler fell on the floor as the other citizens in the inn descended on the terrified man. It was then I awoke.

I was still in one piece. I had been having nightmares a lot lately, and I had begun to wonder if any of them were prophetic. I had studied with Reve Terra Lyeon for a while, but I never held as much credence to her instructions on dreams as I did now. Apparently, Reve lost her memory as much as five times trying to resist the force that was Dränsilane.
I went to the window. It was still night out, and the moon was beginning to set. I remembered her vividly, because she was not only knowledgeable, but powerful in her own right. She was the only family I had ever known, although I knew that I was not her son.

When the daylight returned, I talked with our leader. Lloyd was an interesting fellow who had been with us for a long time, and was the brother of the infamous Kerragan Cathrop and uncle to Reve. Lloyd let me know that the source of Darko was moving underground, and that that was our new destination. We geared up quickly and head down the stairs in the Royal Palace to the treacherous Temple of Faces. We followed the signal eastward and eventually, after a week, ended up emerging in the Great Marsh right next the Weeping Oaken Tree.

//////

I descended later into the ruins, not knowing what to find. There was little left, or at least that was my perception. Who knew if it was truly empty, or if it was my eyes deceiving me?

//////

They said though, if the Lord of the Center ever descended upon the ruins as I did, the ruins would awaken. They possessed only two different sections, one called “?”, and the other one was called “!”. There was a strange energy in them, that’s for certain.

The ancient scripts kept telling of some sort of prophecy, how the Lord of the Center would become not only human, but a fundamental energy of the universe. I had heard that that was the goal of the legendary Dränsilane, to become two entities at the same time. One was all seeing and the other was all knowing. But which was which? Was Dränsilane the all-seeing, or was the energy of Dränsilane all-seeing? Was Dränsilane all-knowing or vice versa? Who knew?
